Metin Serezli — Biography

Born Ahmet Metin Serezli in Istanbul on 12 January 1934, he played for Fenerbahçe's youth football squad between 1951 and 1954 before studying at Istanbul University's Faculty of Law as well as its Institute of Journalism and its Department of Art History.

He took to the stage as an amateur with the university's youth theatre in 1954, and in 1971 co-founded Çevre Tiyatrosu in Kocamustafapaşa together with Altan Erbulak, Füsun Erbulak and Nevra Serezli, the first theatre to open outside the Beyoğlu-Şişli axis. Alongside acting he also worked as a director, and became widely known on screen as the Scarecrow in Ayşecik ve Sihirli Cüceler Rüyalar Ülkesinde and as the journalist Yaşar in Zübük, and on television for Kavanozdaki Adam and for playing Taci in Sihirli Annem; in 1998 he won the Afife Theatre Award for Best Musical/Comedy Actor for Bu Filmi Görmüştüm.

He married Nisa Serezli in 1957 and divorced her in 1964, then married Nevra Serezli in 1968; the couple had two sons, Murat and Selim, and Murat also became an actor. Serezli died in Istanbul on 10 March 2013 after around two years of treatment for lung cancer, and was buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery following funeral prayers at Teşvikiye Mosque.
