40 Metrekare Almanya

40 Metrekare Almanya (40 qm Deutschland) is a 1986 film directed by Tevfik Başer, regarded as a landmark of Turkish-German cinema. It follows Turna, a young woman who joins her husband Dursun in Hamburg only to find herself confined to a small apartment, cut off from the world outside. Bound to his traditional values and wary of a society he sees as alien, Dursun forbids her from leaving; the forty square metres become the whole of the Germany she is allowed to know. Özay Fecht, Yaman Okay and Demir Gökgöl head the cast. With its themes of migration, isolation and a woman's freedom, the film was among the first widely noticed works by a director of Turkish origin in Germany.
