Demir Gökgöl — Biography
Born in Istanbul on 15 July 1937, Demir Gökgöl settled in Germany in 1968 and built his acting career there as a Turkish-German performer. The best-known stretch of that career came through his work with director Fatih Akın on Duvara Karşı (Head-On, 2004) and Aşka Ruhunu Kat (Soul Kitchen, 2009), which made him a familiar face of Turkish-German cinema.
His filmography also includes German productions such as 40 Metrekare Almanya, Evet, ich will!, Time You Change, Ayrılık and Tatort: Leben gegen Leben. Gökgöl died in Hamburg on 22 March 2012 after a long course of treatment for throat cancer.
