Şiir Eloğlu — Biography

Şiir Eloğlu was born on 6 December 1965 in Istanbul and moved to Cologne with her family at the age of four; her name comes from her father, the painter and poet Metin Eloğlu (1927-1985), who won major literature prizes in the 1960s and 1970s. After finishing school in Cologne, she trained for four years at the Hochschule für Musik Saar in Saarbrücken, then took early engagements at theatres in Erlangen, Oberhausen and Cologne.

She made her film debut in 1991 in Doris Dörrie's Happy Birthday, Türk! and appeared in her first Tatort episode alongside Ulrike Folkerts; she reached a wider audience between 1993 and 1996 as the young assistant doctor Nesrin Ergün in the RTL series Stadtklinik. She settled in Berlin at the end of 1997 and performed at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus in Antigone and Seven Against Thebes. Her first international production was the Swiss film 180° (2010), made with an international cast that included Sophie Rois and Christopher Buchholz and awarded Best Screenplay at the Ourense festival. She played Leyla Yılmaz in the Deutscher Filmpreis-winning Almanya - Welcome to Germany, and the architect Suna Kaya in the soap opera Lindenstraße from 2014 to 2015.
