The Influence (Etki (film))

The Influence (La influencia) is a 2019 Spanish horror film that marked the feature directing debut of Denis Rovira van Boekholt. Alicia, a nurse, returns to her childhood family home with her husband Mikel and their young daughter Nora after her mother Victoria falls into a coma. There she reunites with her sister Sara, whom she has not seen in years. Once the family settles in, Alicia begins to notice unsettling changes in their lives and starts to suspect that her comatose mother is somehow responsible. She is ultimately forced to confront a dark force tied to her own past. Adapted from Ramsey Campbell's 1988 novel of the same name, the film stars Manuela Vellés, Maggie Civantos, Alain Hernández and Claudia Placer. After a Spanish theatrical release in 2019, it reached a wider audience through Netflix in October of that year, receiving mixed reviews from critics.
