Manuela Vellés — Biography

Born in Madrid on 16 January 1987 to a family of architects, Manuela Vellés trained under Juan Carlos Corazza's school, studied further with Jorge Eines and Augusto Fernandes, and attended The Acting School of London in 2010. She had only just started acting school when director Julio Medem discovered her at a casting and cast her in the lead of Caótica Ana (2007), followed the next year by a role in Javier Fesser's Camino. One of her most recognized roles came in Hispania, la leyenda, where she played Helena across three seasons from 2010 to 2012; she went on to appear in Velvet (2014-2015), High Seas (2019-2020) and El Ministerio del Tiempo (2020). On screen she has also featured in films such as The Bride, Muse and Alegría, tristeza, and reached Turkish audiences through the Netflix release of La Influencia (Etki) in 2019. Alongside acting she writes and performs her own songs on guitar, releasing her debut album Subo, bajo in October 2018, and returned to theatre in 2015 and 2017 in productions directed by Darío Facal. In 2010 she was nominated for the Mestre Mateo Award for Retornos and won Best Female Performance at the Vila International Short Film Festival.
