Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa — Biography

Carlos Álvarez-Nóvoa Sánchez was born in 1940 in La Felguera, in Spain's Asturias region, and spent much of his career as a theatre director, writer and university lecturer. He gained wider recognition in cinema relatively late in life, winning the 2000 Goya Award for Best New Actor for his role as Vecino in Benito Zambrano's Solas (1999). He went on to take regular character roles on screen, playing Juan in Elsa & Fred (2005) and Tío Fernando in De tu ventana a la mía (2011), as well as guest-starring in the television series El Ministerio del Tiempo. In 2015, the year of his death, he played a father figure in his final film role in The Bride. Álvarez-Nóvoa died of lung cancer in Seville on 23 September 2015, at the age of 75.
