Libera, My Love

Libera, My Love is a 1975 Italian drama film directed by Mauro Bolognini and starring Claudia Cardinale. Spanning roughly 1905 to 1945, it follows a fiery Italian woman who rejects Catholicism, fascism, communism and even liberal democracy, choosing instead to live and die as a committed anarchist.

Written by Nicola Badalucco, Mauro Bolognini and Luciano Vincenzoni, the film recreates the fascist era with carefully detailed production design. The dramatic experiences of Matteo Zannoni and Libera Valente are interwoven with documentary footage of the period's events, giving their personal lives an ideological and political dimension. The 110-minute film also features Bruno Cirino, Adolfo Celi, Philippe Leroy and Luigi Diberti.
