Luigi Diberti — Biography

Luigi Diberti was born on 29 September 1939 in Turin. After training at Rome's National Academy of Dramatic Arts, he took small stage roles before his 1968 breakthrough in Luca Ronconi's L'Orlando Furioso, and moved into film that same year with Maurizio Ponzi's The Visionaries. He went on to work with directors such as Elio Petri, Lina Wertmüller, Michelangelo Antonioni and Dino Risi on titles including The Working Class Goes to Heaven, The Seduction of Mimi and Beau Masque, while remaining a frequent stage collaborator of Giorgio Strehler. Alongside acting he has also worked as a dubbing artist. His screen credits include playing the taxi driver Ceccarelli in Libera, My Love, the chauffeur Giuliano in La banca di Monate, Inspector Manetti in The Stendhal Syndrome, and Capestro in For Roseanna. On television he played Ettore Salimbeni across three seasons of La Piovra, Monsignor Demetrio Antinori in Il tredicesimo apostolo, and appeared in the 2016 series Medici. His career has continued into recent years, with roles in With or Without You (2021) and The Life Apart (2024). Credited in more than a hundred films and television productions, he is also known as Gigi Diberti.
