Omar (Ömer)

Omar is a 2013 Palestinian drama-thriller written and directed by Hany Abu-Assad, starring Adam Bakri and Leem Lubany, and filmed entirely in Palestine.

Omar is a shy, sensitive baker who repeatedly crosses the separation wall to visit Nadia, the woman he loves, drawing himself into a dangerous cat-and-mouse game with Israeli security forces. When he is arrested on suspicion of involvement in a planned attack against Israel, everything he trusts collapses, and he and his friends begin paying the price for mistakes made along the way in their struggle for freedom.

The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Special Jury Prize. It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards and won Best Feature Film at the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Awards. On 1 May 2014 it was screened at the United Nations in New York.
