Tarik Kopty — Biography

A regular presence in the wave of Palestinian cinema that reached the Cannes Film Festival, Tarik Kopty built a filmography spanning The Syrian Bride, Lemon Tree, The Band's Visit, Zaytoun, Omar and Dancing Arabs - A Borrowed Identity. His most internationally noted part came as the neighbor in Elia Suleiman's The Time That Remains (2009); Suleiman's later feature It Must Be Heaven, in which Kopty also appeared, went on to win the FIPRESCI prize at Cannes.

Before establishing himself on screen from the 1970s, the Nazareth-born actor had worked in education, journalism and translation. He remained active into his final years, appearing in The Taste of Apples Is Red (2022), and died in Nazareth, the city of his birth, on 24 February 2022 at the age of 77.
