Zeynep Eronat — Biography

Zeynep Eronat was born in Istanbul on 9 July 1963. Her father's job meant that she grew up in various Turkish cities until the family settled in Ankara when she was thirteen. Encouraged by her mother, she entered the Theater Department of the Ankara State Conservatory in 1981 and graduated in 1985, training under veteran performers such as Cüneyt Gökçer, Semih Sergen and Bozkurt Kuruç.

Upon graduation she joined Bursa State Theatre as a trainee, and in 1987 she transferred to Ankara State Theatre, where she remained on stage for many years. She began appearing on television in the early 1990s, but her breakthrough came in 2002 with the series Asmalı Konak. She appeared in films including Mustafa Hakkında Herşey and Neredesin Firuze, and her performance in Sen Ne Dilersen earned her the Best Supporting Actress award at the 2006 Altın Koza Film Festival.

She retired from Ankara State Theatre in the 2006–2007 season and moved to Istanbul. Her portrayal of the ward boss Ziynet Kara in Parmaklıklar Ardında brought her wide acclaim, and she went on to appear in series such as O Hayat Benim, Yüzleşme and Uzak Şehrin Masalı. In 2025 she joined the cast of the series Eşref Rüya.

Their work through different eyes

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

The centre of gravity in Zeynep Eronat's film work is, in my view, Sen Ne Dilersen: she plays Eftimiya across roughly thirty years in the story of a Greek family living in Türkiye, and it brought her the supporting actress award. A narrative stretched over time asks a supporting player to carry a character through the years, which suits a theatre-trained actress. Sansar in Neredesin Firuze, inside a satirical musical comedy, demands an entirely different tempo, and set side by side the two films suggest she is more at home in serious drama.

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

On television, what stays with a viewer of Zeynep Eronat is Ziynet Kara, the ward boss in Parmaklıklar Ardında. In a crowded cast of quarrelling prisoners, such an authority figure gives a supporting player a solid point of gravity. After the 2002 breakthrough of Asmalı Konak, this is in my view her most lasting series work, and a good example of how a supporting actress can claim space in a wide ensemble.
