Bergüzar Korel — Biography

Bergüzar Gökçe Korel was born on August 27, 1982, in Istanbul, the daughter of actors Tanju Korel and Hülya Darcan. She trained at the Theatre Department of the Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory and has also worked as a television presenter and singer.

She made her screen debut in the 1998 series Kırık Hayatlar. The year 2006 proved decisive: she moved into cinema as Leyla in Valley of the Wolves: Iraq and rose to wide fame as Şehrazat Evliyaoğlu in the series Binbir Gece (1001 Nights), a performance that brought her the 2006 Golden Butterfly Award for Best Actress.

She went on to play Gözde in the film Aşk Geliyorum Demez (2009), Feraye in Bitmeyen Şarkı (2010-2011) and Feride in Karadayı (2012-2015), the latter earning her a second Golden Butterfly in 2013. From 2016 to 2018 she starred as the nurse Azize in Vatanım Sensin opposite Halit Ergenç, whom she married in 2009; the couple have a son named Ali.

More recently she portrayed Yasemin in the film On Saniye (2024) and co-starred with Timuçin Esen in the HBO Max series İlk ve Son.
