Elit İşcan — Biography

Elit İşcan was born on 12 January 1994 in Istanbul, one of two children of an architect father and a computer-programmer mother. Discovered as a schoolgirl at İstanbul Kemer College when director Reha Erdem held auditions on campus, she trained at Ekol Drama and made her screen debut in the 2006 film Beş Vakit. Her performance in Hayat Var brought her a Cahide Sonku Best Actress nomination at the SİYAD Awards and the Young Witch prize at the Uçan Süpürge festival, and she reached wide audiences through the long-running series Küçük Kadınlar. She gained international recognition for the 2015 film Mustang, France's submission for the Academy Awards, receiving the Best Actress award at the 46th International Film Festival of India. She went on to appear in A.Ş.K., Put Şeylere, Tuzdan Kaide, Kurşun and the series adaptation Hamlet, and in the 2023 film Suyun Üstü. In 2018 she brought a sexual-assault complaint against a co-star; the case ended in his acquittal in 2021, and she spoke out publicly against on-set harassment during the proceedings. Beyond acting, İşcan has moved into directing: her debut short film had its world premiere in Riga in 2026, and her next feature, Sarı Zarflar, is set for release the same year.
