Erdem Akakçe — Biography

Between stage and screen, Turkish actor Erdem Akakçe has kept a balanced career. Trained in the theatre in Ankara, he has worked for more than twenty years in cinema, television and streaming productions; his lead role in the film Ara and his Meczup Abdullah in the series Vuslat are among the work he is most often associated with.

After Ankara Özel Yükseliş College, he studied in the theatre department of Bilkent University's Faculty of Music and Performing Arts. He made his professional stage debut in 1998 at Dostlar Tiyatrosu in Yalınayak Sokrates and stayed with that company until 2005. His parts in plays such as Yarışma, Yaşasın Savaş, Fay Hattı and Kocasını Pişiren Kadın earned him the Avni Dilligil, Ankara Sanat Kurumu and Afife theatre awards. He entered television in 2002 with Biz Size Âşık Olduk, followed by Bir İstanbul Masalı and 29-30.

In cinema he appeared in Korkuyorum Anne, Anlat İstanbul, Karanlıktakiler, Nar and Ağustos Böcekleri ve Karıncalar (as Metin), and played Mümin Çılgın in Bizim İçin Şampiyon. More recently he took on Behram in Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu, Cevat in the Netflix series Sıcak Kafa and Rafet in Aktris; the international production Rise of Empires: Ottoman (2020) is also among his credits.

Their work through different eyes

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

Erdem Akakçe's most consistent line in cinema runs through Ümit Ünal: Ara, Gölgesizler and Nar. Gölgesizler is a psychological drama that circles coolly around a girl who vanishes from a village, and such slow, detached storytelling leaves room for a stage-trained actor. In my view this line leaves Akakçe's most lasting mark in cinema; for a newcomer, Ara is a good way in since he leads it.

Series Binger A series devotee tracking character arcs, cast chemistry and season pacing.

Erdem Akakçe's choices in series cover a wide field: Meczup Abdullah in Vuslat, a historical world in Uyanış: Büyük Selçuklu, a dystopian thriller in Sıcak Kafa. In my view the breadth is valuable, since it shows an actor of stage origins adapting to different genre codes. Nobody can pin him down with a single genre label.
