Harry-Max — Biography

French film, stage and television actor Harry-Max, whose real name was Maxime Louis Charles Dichamp, appeared in more than eighty films between 1938 and 1975. Among the parts he played were a trainer, a doctor, a father and a grandfather, and one of his best-known credits is François Truffaut's Stolen Kisses.

From the mid-1940s he turned up in productions such as Loves, Delights and Organs, Man About Town and The Crowned Fish Tavern. His busiest stretch, from the 1950s into the 1960s, included La Poison, The Slave, Cadet Rousselle, Une Parisienne, Le Beau Serge, Le petit prof and Comment épouser un premier ministre. He played the trainer Cyril Mauvoisin in Courte tête, a doctor in A Dog, a Mouse, and a Sputnik and Crollebois in Le Tracassin.

In the late 1960s he played Monsieur Henri in Truffaut's film, whose cast also included Delphine Seyrig and Michael Lonsdale. In the same years he was in Hibernatus and Appelez-moi Mathilde, and later in Cain de nulle part (as a father), Law Breakers and Le rempart des Béguines (as a grandfather). He died in Ivry-sur-Seine on 13 March 1979.
