Judith Magre — Biography

Judith Magre was born Simone Dupuis on 20 November 1926, in the small Champagne-Ardenne town of Montier-en-Der. She began acting under the pseudonym Simone Chambord before adopting the name by which she later became known, Judith Magre. Trained at the Cours Simon drama school and Paris's Faculty of Arts, she has built a stage and screen career spanning over sixty years, singing on occasion along the way. She was married to filmmaker Claude Lanzmann. Her theatre performances won her two Molière Awards for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress, and she was elevated to officer rank in France's National Order of Merit. On screen she has appeared in dozens of productions, among them Rat Race, Le Voyou, Napoléon, Woman Times Seven and Nathalie..., continuing to act into her nineties.
