Müşfik Kenter — Biography

Müşfik Galip Kenter was born on 8 September 1932 in Istanbul to a diplomat father and an English-born mother, and trained in theatre at the Ankara State Conservatory. In 1959 he and his sister Yıldız Kenter founded a company that became Kent Oyuncuları in 1962, gaining its own building in 1968; he also studied theatre in the US and Britain on British Council and Rockefeller grants. His portrayal of the poet in Murathan Mungan's solo play Bir Garip Orhan Veli ran over 25 years, one of the longest single-actor runs in Turkish theatre.

On screen he appeared in Murtaza, Sevmek Zamanı, Hayallerim Aşkım ve Sen and the series Yorgun Savaşçı and Avrupa Yakası; he won best supporting actor at the 1966 Antalya Film Festival and was later named a State Artist. He was also a prolific voice actor, dubbing Alf and Master Oogway in Kung Fu Panda. While being treated for lung cancer, shortly after his disabled son died, he died on 15 August 2012.
