A Queen for Caesar
A Queen for Caesar (Una regina per Cesare) is a 1962 Italian-French historical drama co-directed by Piero Pierotti and Victor Tourjansky. The leading roles are played by Pascale Petit, George Ardisson, and Rik Battaglia.
The action unfolds in Egypt in 48 BC. Rather than retelling the familiar romance between Cleopatra and the Roman general, the picture concentrates on the internal dynastic rivalry for the Egyptian throne that precedes his arrival. Julius Caesar turns up only briefly at the very end, when he reaches the Ptolemaic Palace in Alexandria.
Production took place at the Incir De Paolis Studios in Rome. 20th Century Fox later purchased the distribution rights and shelved the film so that it would not draw audiences away from the studio's own Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor.
