Ladyhawke

Ladyhawke, a 1985 medieval fantasy directed and produced by Richard Donner, stars Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer. The story follows Phillipe Gaston, a young thief who flees the dungeons of Aquila and is drawn, against his will, into the plight of Captain Etienne Navarre and his beloved Isabeau, who are hunted by the city's jealous Bishop. Because of a demonic curse, Isabeau lives as a hawk by day while Navarre becomes a black wolf by night, so the lovers can never share a human moment together. Imperius, the monk who once revealed their secret to the Bishop while drunk, finds a way to undo the spell — but only if the couple returns to Aquila to confront him. Reluctant at first, Phillipe decides to help, joining them as they face the Bishop's guards, a wolf hunter and the curse itself. Though it fell short at the box office on release, the film earned favorable reviews and later gained a devoted following as a fantasy classic. Joan D. Vinge published a novelization the same year.
