Kind Feyzo (Kibar Feyzo) (translated)
Released in 1978, the Turkish comedy Kibar Feyzo was helmed by Atıf Yılmaz and put out under the Arzu Film banner. Drawing on a tale from Osman Şahin's book Kırmızı Yel, it takes an ironic swipe at the landlord tradition while giving room to class differences, which has helped it endure as a beloved classic of Turkish cinema.
A young villager, back from military service, tries to gather the bride price so he can wed the woman he adores; when the effort turns into a bidding war, he leaves for the big city to earn the sum instead. What he learns there shapes the standoff he has with the local landlord once he returns, as he pushes back against the man's oppressive grip on the village.
Kemal Sunal plays the young suitor opposite Şener Şen as the landlord, with Müjde Ar, Adile Naşit, İhsan Yüce, İlyas Salman, and Erdal Özyağcılar rounding out the cast. Because of its pointed social commentary, the picture ran into censorship trouble for a long stretch after its release.
