Adile Naşit — Biography
Adile Naşit was born on 17 June 1930 in Istanbul to the comedian Naşit Özcan and theatre actress Amelya Hanım. After her father's death she left school at fourteen to join the children's section of the Istanbul City Theatres, later performing with the Muammer Karaca troupe among others. She made her screen debut in 1947 but found lasting fame only in the 1970s through Ertem Eğilmez's productions. She is remembered above all for playing Hafize Ana across the Hababam Sınıfı film series and for her long-running screen partnership with Münir Özkul, appearing together in films such as Tosun Paşa, Süt Kardeşler, Neşeli Günler and Kibar Feyzo. Her role in İşte Hayat won her the best actress prize at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, and her portrayals of warm-hearted mothers led to her being named Mother of the Year in 1985. She also told stories on the children's television programme Uykudan Önce. In her private life she married theatre performer Ziya Keskiner and lost their only son, Ahmet, to a heart ailment at the age of fifteen; after Keskiner's death in 1982 she married Cemal İnce. Adile Naşit died in Istanbul on 11 December 1987 of colon cancer and was buried at Karacaahmet Cemetery.
