Metin Akpınar — Biography

Metin Akpınar was born on 2 November 1941 in Istanbul. He studied at Istanbul University's Faculty of Law and later its Faculty of Letters. In 1964 he began his professional stage career at the Ulvi Uraz Theatre with the play "Gözlerimi Kaparım Vazifemi Yaparım." In 1967, together with Haldun Taner, Zeki Alasya and Ahmet Gülhan, he co-founded Turkey's first cabaret theatre, Devekuşu Kabare, where he also served as administrative director. He made his film debut in 1972 in Ertem Eğilmez's Tatlı Dillim, after which he and Zeki Alasya formed the celebrated "Zeki-Metin" comedy duo and appeared together in numerous films. Over his career he appeared in films such as Propaganda, Güle Güle, Rus Gelin and Abuzer Kadayıf, played the character Haşmet in the series Aşk Laftan Anlamaz, and appeared in the film Kafalar Karışık. He received the Golden Orange Lifetime Achievement Award and was granted the title of State Artist.
