Halit Akçatepe — Biography
Mustafa Halit Akçatepe was born in 1938 in Istanbul's Üsküdar district, the son of two actors, folk-theatre performer Sıtkı Akçatepe and Leman Akçatepe; his father claimed descent from the Ottoman grand vizier Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha. At just five he took his first film role through his father's connections, and by seven he had joined the children's section of the Istanbul City Theatres. After graduating from the Saint-Benoît French high school he studied literature and then law, but left his studies for the theatre, making his professional stage debut in 1960 at a small chamber theatre.
He spent years performing alongside Zeki Alasya and Metin Akpınar at the Devekuşu Kabare Tiyatrosu, gained wide recognition with the 1972 film Tatlı Dillim, and showed a dramatic range beyond comedy in Canım Kardeşim. Lasting fame came with his role as Güdük Necmi in the Chaos Class series that began in 1975, a part he reprised across sequels for more than three decades, at times sharing the screen with his own father, who played the character Paşa Nuri in the same films.
Twice married, Akçatepe had daughters Itır and Ebru with his first wife, Tülin, and a daughter, Günsu, with his second wife, Rezzan. A recipient of the Golden Orange Lifetime Achievement Award, he died in Istanbul on 31 March 2017; in April 2026 he was the first honoree in a series of tribute evenings for Yeşilçam masters at the AKM.
