Movie · 1976 · 6 people

Tosun Paşa is a 1976 Turkish comedy that marked Kartal Tibet's debut as a director, from a screenplay by Yavuz Turgul. Produced by Ertem Eğilmez's Arzu Film, it draws on Nikolai Gogol's play The Government Inspector and is set in 19th-century Alexandria under Ottoman rule. The film opened across Turkey on 1 February 1976.

Two feuding families, the Tellioğulları and the Seferoğulları, compete for a prized stretch of land called the Green Valley, and their rivalry intensifies when Leyla, the daughter of the official Daver Bey, becomes a sought-after bride. Hoping to exploit the fear inspired by the formidable governor Tosun Pasha, the Tellioğulları disguise their butler Şaban as the pasha. The scheme collapses when Şaban falls in love with Leyla and the real Tosun Pasha arrives. Led by Kemal Sunal in his trademark Şaban role alongside Şener Şen, Müjde Ar, Adile Naşit and Ayşen Gruda, the film is remembered as a classic of Turkish cinema, noted especially for its musical score.
