Memlekette Demokrasi Var is a Turkish comedy-drama written and directed by Süleyman Nebioğlu, released in cinemas on 3 December 2010. The story revolves around a man known as Deli Baradan, who becomes obsessed with freeing Adnan Menderes, the former prime minister imprisoned on Yassıada after the 27 May 1960 coup and only days away from execution. His wildly improbable scheme is to assemble a bomb from one hundred thousand matchsticks, push it through a passage dug beneath the sea to the island, and set it off so that Menderes can slip out along the same route amid the turmoil. Nobody takes the plan seriously, yet it opens a humorous window onto one of the most painful episodes of recent Turkish history. Müjdat Gezen plays Baradan, with Şafak Sezer as a gendarme, Tamer Karadağlı as the district governor and Gülçin Santırcıoğlu as Huriye. The film blends political satire with elements of adventure.
