Tamer Karadağlı — Biography

Tamer Karadağlı was born May 24, 1967, in Ankara to an Azerbaijani-descended family from Sarıkamış, Kars, and spent part of his childhood in the United States. After TED Ankara College he finished high school at Çankaya Lisesi, taught English for two years, and graduated from Bilkent University's Theatre Department, having auditioned with Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

He made his professional stage debut in 1992 in Uyarca at the Ankara State Theatre, later appearing in plays such as Cahide; he entered television in 1993 with Ferhunde Hanımlar and became known for Haluk Çetinoğlu in Çocuklar Duymasın (2002-2019). His film credits include Bir Tutam Baharat, Beyza'nın Kadınları, Şans Kapıyı Kırınca, Suluboya, Memlekette Demokrasi Var and Türk Suikastçı Alina, and he also appeared in the series Andropoz.

Known in Turkish dubbing as the voice of George Clooney, Karadağlı has also dubbed Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood and Al Pacino, plus Tony Stark in the Avengers films and Darth Vader in Star Wars. He married actress Arzu Balkan on November 30, 2002, divorcing in 2007; they have a daughter, Zeyno.

He was appointed General Director of the Turkish State Theatres by presidential decree on August 11, 2023, a tenure drawing criticism over rising travel expenses; in May 2026 he was booed by the audience at the Aspendos Ancient Theatre.
