Memories of the Wind (Rüzgarın Hatıraları)

Rüzgarın Hatıraları is a 2015 drama directed by Özcan Alper, with a screenplay he co-wrote with Ahmet Büke. The production brought together backing from Turkey, Germany and France. Its story follows Aram, a non-Muslim newspaperman who finds himself targeted amid the rising hostility and pressure of the Second World War years; unable to pay a crushing tax levy, he goes into hiding along the Black Sea coast while waiting for a chance to slip across the border.

Onur Saylak takes the role of Aram, joined by Tuba Büyüküstün, Murat Daltaban, Mustafa Uğurlu, Ebru Özkan and Menderes Samancılar. Alper had previously worked with Saylak on his earlier feature Sonbahar, and this marks his third full-length film as director.

The picture found a warm reception on the festival circuit, taking prizes for cinematography and score at the Antalya Golden Orange festival and picking up the audience prize in that event's international section, followed by further recognition from SİYAD and the Ankara Film Festival.
