Skin Deep

Skin Deep (German: Aus meiner Haut) is a German science fiction drama directed by Alex Schaad, who co-wrote the screenplay with Dimitrij Schaad. The film premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2022 and opened in German cinemas in early February 2023.

Jonas Dassler and Mala Emde star as Tristan and Leyla, a couple struggling to save their troubled relationship. They travel to a remote island where people can temporarily swap bodies with one another to see the world through different eyes. Leyla is so fulfilled living in someone else's body that she refuses to return to her own, pushing the couple's love into an unprecedented test. The supporting cast includes Dimitrij Schaad, Maryam Zaree, Thomas Wodianka, Edgar Selge and Adam Bousdoukos. The film received the Queer Lion award at Venice.
