The Woman in Gold

Woman in Gold is a 2015 biographical drama directed by Simon Curtis and written by Alexi Kaye Campbell. It tells the true story of Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish refugee from Vienna living in Los Angeles. After her family's property was looted by the Nazis on the eve of World War II, she sets out to recover Gustav Klimt's celebrated Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, the painting of her aunt. Aided by a young and inexperienced lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, she fights the Austrian government for nearly a decade, a legal battle that ultimately reaches the Supreme Court of the United States. For Maria, the struggle also becomes a journey back into the secrets and memories of her past. The film stars Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Daniel Brühl, Katie Holmes and Tatiana Maslany. It premiered on 9 February 2015 at the Berlin International Film Festival before its theatrical releases in the United States and the United Kingdom in April 2015.
