Uğur Yücel — Biography

Uğur Yücel was born on 26 May 1957 in Istanbul and trained in the theatre program of the Istanbul Municipality's conservatory. While still a student there, he began performing solo stage shows in 1977, and between 1975 and 1984 he appeared in productions at the Kenter and Tef Kabare theatres, the Dormen Theatre and the Şan Müzikholü. He moved into film in 1984 with Fahriye Abla, drew attention for Selamsız Bandosu and for Muhsin Bey (1987) opposite Şener Şen, and that same year shared the screen with Müjde Ar and Şener Şen in Arabesk, which turned out to be Ertem Eğilmez's last film as a director. He reached broad mainstream success with Eşkıya in 1996. He moved into television in 1994 with Aziz Ahmet, followed by series such as Familya, Aramızda Kalsın, Aşk ve Ceza, Kolay Gelsin, Canım Ailem, Hırsız Polis, Karanlıkta Koşanlar, and İçerde, in which he played Kudret Sönmez. Also a director of several of his own films, he won the Best Director award at the International Adana Film Festival. He has recently returned to screens in the Netflix series Bir İhtimal Daha Var opposite Ata Demirer, in Halef: Köklerin Çağrısı, and as the "Elder" in Eşref Rüya, a spin-off of Mehmed: Fetihler Sultanı.
