Belçim Bilgin — Biography

Belçim Bilgin was born on 31 January 1983 in Ankara to a family of Kurdish origin and took an interest in amateur theatre during middle and high school. While studying information and document management at Hacettepe University, she met Yılmaz Erdoğan through a friend and made her screen debut alongside him in Kilomètre Zéro, directed by Hiner Saleem; she then paused her studies to live in Paris for two years before returning to Turkey to appear in Dol. Kilomètre Zéro also brought her to the Cannes Film Festival. She married Erdoğan in 2006 and became known the following year for playing Defne in the series Hatırla Sevgili; the couple had a son in 2010 and divorced in 2026. She appeared in Güz Sancısı in 2008 and shared the lead with Mehmet Günsür in Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever in 2011, and took the lead role in Keşanlı Ali Destanı, a series adapted from a classic play. She reached wide audiences through Kurtuluş Son Durak, Gergedan Mevsimi and Kelebeğin Rüyası, and later appeared in Sadece Sen, Çalsın Sazlar, Annemin Yarası, Kördüğüm, Cebimdeki Yabancı and the international production Backstabbing for Beginners; she has also worked with the Uçan Süpürge association against child marriage.
