Erden Alkan — Biography
Erden Alkan was born in Giresun on 12 February 1941 and holds both Turkish and German citizenship. Alongside acting he has worked in Germany as a theatre founder, playwright and director. He finished Vefa High School in Istanbul and then trained at the Max Reinhardt Theatre School in Vienna.
His film career began during the busiest years of Yeşilçam, with a run of early-1970s pictures including Ölüm Emri, Battal Gazi Destanı, Tophaneli Murat and Gönülden Yaralılar. Much of the rest of his working life was spent in Germany, where his credits take in the Tatort episode Brandwunden, Wolffs Revier, Evet, ich will! and Mordkommission Istanbul.
He returned to Turkish television in 2004 with Mavi Rüya and followed it with Kollama, Gazi, Yalan Dünya, Gece Gündüz and Yılanların Öcü. In 2012 he played Çandarlı Halil Pasha in the large-scale historical feature Fetih 1453, and shortly afterwards reached a far wider audience as Candar Bey in Diriliş: Ertuğrul. Beyaz Balina (2017) and Deliler: Fatih'in Fermanı (2018) are among his more recent screen appearances.
