Hazar Ergüçlü — Biography
Hazar Ergüçlü is a Turkish Cypriot actress and producer. In Turkey she reached a wide audience as Eylül in Medcezir, then played Zeynep Erman for four seasons in Hakan: Muhafız, Netflix's first Turkish series. In recent years she played Dilber in İnci Taneleri, and the films Öldürdüğün Şeyler and Mutter have taken her to international festivals.
Both her parents are journalists. At Yakın Doğu Koleji she turned to theatre on a psychologist's advice, worked in the Nicosia Turkish Municipality's youth theatre and studied theatre at Haliç University's conservatory. Her first professional camera work was in Derviş Zaim's Gölgeler ve Suretler in 2010. She entered television as Simay in Kuzey Güney; after Medcezir came Analar ve Anneler, Yüksek Sosyete (Cansu) and Hayat Sırları (Seher). In cinema she appeared in Dar Elbise and played Müzeyyen in Kar, which won her the Türkan Şoray Promising Young Actress award at the Adana Film Festival. In Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Ahlat Ağacı she was Hatice.
Later she moved to streaming platforms: Alev Alev, Saklı, the Netflix film Gönül and oncologist Suzan Mayer in Hayat Bugün belong to this period. In 2019 she guest-starred in the BBC series The Mallorca Files. Her first film as producer, Beni Sevenler Listesi, won the Golden Tulip at the Istanbul Film Festival. Öldürdüğün Şeyler was selected for Sundance and put forward as Canada's Oscar candidate, while Mutter screened at Tribeca.
