Marilou Berry — Biography

The daughter of director Josiane Balasko and sculptor Philippe Berry, and niece of actor Richard Berry, Marilou Berry was born in the 13th arrondissement of Paris to a family of Croatian and Maghrebi Jewish descent. Uninterested in formal schooling, she left high school to enroll at the Conservatoire de Paris. She made her screen debut at age eight in My Life Is Hell, a comedy written and directed by her mother and co-starring her uncle.

She gained wide recognition playing Lolita Cassard, a girl overshadowed by her famous author father, in Look at Me, and that same year played Hannah Goldman, the only girl in an all-male school jazz band in 1950s France, in La Première Fois que j'ai eu 20 ans. Her later work turned largely to comedy, including Once Upon a Time in the Oued, Those Happy Days, Trivial, Cliente, Vilaine, Beur sur la ville and The New Adventures of Cinderella.

She appeared in Merlin in 2012 and both Queens of the Ring and the series Joséphine in 2013, and in 2016 was made a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters.
