Numan Acar — Biography

Numan Acar was born on 7 October 1974 in the village of Kozoğlu, Kelkit district, Gümüşhane province. Raised in Erzincan until age eight, he moved with his family to Germany in 1982; after finishing high school he completed a bricklaying apprenticeship, then studied civil engineering in Wiesbaden, where filling in on stage for another actor sparked his interest in theatre, a training he completed in 2001. He began working as a professional actor in 2002, appearing in Turkish and German productions before founding the production company Acar Entertainment in 2007, the same year he served as a producer on the Berlin-shot series Menekşe ile Halil. In 2014 he had his first American role, playing Taliban leader Haissam Haqqani in the fourth season of Homeland, a part he reprised in the show's final season in 2020; in 2019 he played Dmitri Smerdyakov in Spider-Man: Far From Home. He has continued with roles in The Promise, In the Fade, The Great Wall and Aladdin, and speaks German, Turkish, Spanish and English fluently along with some Kurdish, Azerbaijani and Arabic, while based in Berlin.
