Oya Aydoğan — Biography

Oya Aydoğan was one of the most prolific actresses of Yeşilçam in the 1970s and 1980s. The Ses magazine film-actress contest opened the door for her, and she is remembered for Deli Şahin, Neşeli Günler, Yedi Bela Hüsnü and Beyoğlu'nun Arka Yakası. In her last years she also worked as a television presenter; she died in Istanbul on 15 May 2016.

Born in Erzincan, she lived with her family in Beyoğlu until the age of eight and attended French lycées. She dreamed of becoming an actress while still in primary school. In 1975 she won a beauty contest but returned the prize under family pressure; in 1976 she won the 8th Cinema Actress Contest of Ses magazine and the same year shared her first lead role with Cüneyt Arkın in Deli Şahin. In 1978 she joined the cast of Ertem Eğilmez's Neşeli Günler, then often appeared in the arabesque films of the post-1980 coup years. She shared the lead with Kemal Sunal in Yedi Bela Hüsnü, sang in nightclubs for a time in the 1980s, and produced Merhamet in 1986. In Beyoğlu'nun Arka Yakası she played Zümrüt.

Later she appeared in series such as Bez Bebek and Düşman Kardeşler and on the programmes Şekerli Kahve and Söylemezsem Olmaz. For Meloş in Kedi Özledi she won Best Supporting Actress in a comedy at the 2014 Sadri Alışık Awards. Between 1976 and 2016 she acted in 51 feature films and 13 television series.

Their work through different eyes

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

The two films that suit watching Oya Aydoğan with children are the Kemal Sunal neighbourhood comedies Yedi Bela Hüsnü and Yüz Numaralı Adam. Both are about what happens to a naive man, and grandparent and grandchild can laugh together. Takip is an adventure-action film about the pursuit of escaped prisoners; Aydoğan plays Oya there, but keep it for older children.

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

Oya Aydoğan's parts in the popular comedies mostly accompany the story of Kemal Sunal or Cüneyt Arkın, while Beyoğlu'nun Arka Yakası gives Zümrüt a different ground. In Şerif Gören's 1986 film the path of the civil servant played by Tarık Akan crosses Zümrüt's in the night world of Beyoğlu. In my view it is a good example of Aydoğan finding a place outside the daytime comedies, in a shadier Istanbul film.
