Pierre Bertin — Biography

Born Pierre Victor Théophile Bertin in Lille on 24 October 1891, he worked across more than six decades in both theatre and film, also active as a stage director and set designer. He appeared in Jean Cocteau's Orphée alongside Jean Marais, played the marquis de la Force in Dialogue with the Carmelites and the judge in The Stranger, and took the role of Baron de Gondremarck in a celebrated 1960 broadcast of Offenbach's operetta La Vie parisienne. In 1948 he had the lead in Sacha Guitry's The Lame Devil.

Beyond acting, he wrote the libretto for Henri Sauguet's comic opera La Gageure imprévue and contributed to Claude Arrieu's 1951 radio opera Les Deux Rendez-vous. He also appeared in films such as Dr. Knock, Elena and Her Men, Les Bonnes Femmes and Monsieur Gangster, was honored with the prix Littré, and died in Paris on 13 May 1984.
