Roland Giraud — Biography

Roland Giraud was born on 14 February 1942 in Rabat, Morocco. He completed his stage training during the 1960s, then in 1971 entered the company assembled by comedian Coluche, crossing paths around the same years with the Le Splendid troupe. In 1966 he married fellow actor Maaike Jansen. His first appearance on screen came in 1974 in Michel Audiard's Bons baisers... à lundi; broader recognition followed through his performances in Papy fait de la résistance and in Coline Serreau's Trois hommes et un couffin. Over the following decades he took roles in numerous French productions, among them Fantômas contre Scotland Yard, Elle voit des nains partout!, Liberté, Égalité, Choucroute, Le Maître d'école, and Quatre garçons pleins d'avenir, still appearing on screen into the 2010s with the 2011 release Beur sur la ville. His daughter Géraldine, also an actress, was killed at thirty-six, a loss that marked his later years.
