Şevket Altuğ — Biography

Şevket Altuğ was born on 13 March 1943 in the Bandırma district of Balıkesir; his family originates from Sürmene in Trabzon, and he moved to Istanbul with them at six months old. He attended Galatasaray High School from primary school onward, graduating in 1960, then spent four years at Istanbul University's Department of Cinema and Conservatory. His theatre career began in 1962 with the Dostlar Tiyatrosu and Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu companies, and he also appeared in AEG advertisements for five years. He entered cinema in 1975 with Atıf Yılmaz's İşte Hayat, appearing in over twenty Yeşilçam films in the 1970s-80s.

On television he first appeared in Seyahatname before gaining recognition as Şakir Uysal in Perihan Abla and Fikret "Fiko" in Süper Baba; after turning 50 he moved into production, both starring in and producing Süper Baba during its 1993-1997 run. These roles brought a Golden Butterfly award (1995) and a Marmara University communications award (1997), plus several arts-service honors later on. He married fellow theatre actor Jale Erdoğdu in 1971, and the couple had two children, Kezban and Kerem. Altuğ retired from acting after 2003 and now lives in Datça on rental income; turning 83 in 2026, a birthday post and a rare public appearance at a funeral both drew wide attention.
