Şevket Çoruh — Biography

Şevket Çoruh is a Turkish theatre, film and television actor, born on June 30, 1973 in Istanbul. His mother's family, of Georgian and Laz descent, settled in Sapanca, while his father's side migrated from Anaçlı in Ardanuç after the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878. After completing his schooling in Üsküdar and at Kartal Anadolu High School, he trained in theatre at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. On stage from 1989 onward, he first gained wider attention with his "Kokoreççi" character in an internet commercial and performed the one-man comedy Caveman in Turkey.

He began his screen career with Çiçek Taksi (1995) and became a household name as Commissioner Mesut Güneri in the long-running Kanal D police series Arka Sokaklar, which he joined in 2006; he left in 2022, briefly returned, and in 2026 personally announced the show's finale. His film credits include İnşaat (2003), Eğreti Gelin (2004), Usta (2008) and Aile Arasında (2017), along with the role of Gökhan in the Çakallarla Dans franchise. In 2017 he founded the Baba Sahne theatre in Kadıköy, earned awards for Bir Baba Hamlet, and in 2020 received the traditional kavuk from Rasim Öztekin.
