Tamer Yiğit — Biography

Tamer Yiğit is an actor who appeared in well over a hundred films during Yeşilçam's most productive years and, after a long gap, reached a wide audience again as Ertuğrul Gazi in the series Kuruluş: Osman. His real name is Tamer Özyiğitoğlu; he also wrote screenplays and worked as a producer.

While a student at the İzmir Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences he won a cover-star competition run by Ses magazine in 1962, and entered cinema that same year; his first film was Daima Kalbimdesin. In the 1960s he took part in adventure and action productions such as Hepimiz Kardeşiz, Şekerli misin Vay Vay, Maskeli Beşler and Kara Pençe, and from 1970 in Bir Çuval Para, Acımak, Beş Hergele and Kızgın Toprak. He wrote the screenplays of Şehitler, Halime'nin Kızları and Yaşamak Güzel Şey. He married in 1973 and in 1979 stepped away from cinema for business; after 1987 he returned to the camera in film and television work such as Gönül Dostları, Yuva and Çiçek Taksi.

In 2007-2008 he played Ali Selçuk Toros in Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu, then returned to the screen twelve years later as Ertuğrul Gazi in Kuruluş: Osman. He was among the founding members of the AK Party in 2001, and served on the board of Balıkesirspor and with the Sinema Oyuncuları Derneği.
