Taner Barlas — Biography
Born in 1947 in Burdur, Taner Barlas graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University before completing the LCC Theatre School and developing his pantomime training in England and Poland. He founded MİM Theatre in 1984 and served as its artistic director for five years, and he still works as a director and actor at the Istanbul Municipality theatres.
He entered cinema in 1986 with Değirmen and Asiye Nasıl Kurtulur, and became known for films such as Berdel (1990), Piano Piano Bacaksız (1991), Seni Seviyorum Rosa (1992) and Amerikalı (1993). On television he appeared in series including Asmalı Konak, Binbir Gece, Yaprak Dökümü, Kavak Yelleri and Aşk ve Ceza.
Following more recent work such as Yüksek Sosyete (2015) and Son Destan, he directed the stage adaptation of Kürk Mantolu Madonna, based on Sabahattin Ali's novel of the same name. In 2009 he was named director of the year's most successful production at the Sadri Alışık Awards.
