The Golden Glove (Altın Eldiven)

The Golden Glove is a 2019 German-French co-production written and directed by Fatih Akin. Adapted from Heinz Strunk's novel of the same name, it portrays the real-life German serial killer Fritz Honka. In 1970s Hamburg, a run-down pub called the Golden Glove in the city's red-light district serves as a gathering place for losers and outcasts. Honka, a disfigured alcoholic who appears quiet and ordinary from the outside, picks his victims from among the bar's regulars. He lures elderly women to his attic apartment, murders them, and hides their dismembered remains inside his home, killing four women between 1970 and 1975. A steady job briefly pulls him away from this squalid world, but he soon falls back into his old habits, and the mounting murders eventually make it impossible for him to escape the police. Jonas Dassler plays Honka. The film had its premiere in the main competition of the 69th Berlin International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Bear, and it was the first Fatih Akin film to receive an 18 rating in Germany.
