Goodbye Berlin

Goodbye Berlin (original German title Tschick) is a 2016 German comedy-drama film directed by Fatih Akın. The screenplay, adapted from Wolfgang Herrndorf's 2010 novel Tschick, was written by Hark Bohm, Fatih Akın and Lars Hubrich. It was produced by Marco Mehlitz.

The film tells the story of 14-year-old Maik Klingenberg, who is facing a boring summer holiday. His mother is in a treatment clinic and his father is away; what is more, Maik is the only one not invited to the birthday party of the classmate he is secretly in love with. When the other outsider of the class, Andrej Tschichatschow, known by the nickname Tschick, turns up with a stolen car, the two set off on an adventurous journey across Eastern Germany. Along the way they meet all kinds of people, take in the homeless girl Isa and form a close friendship. The trip ends in a road accident; while Tschick runs away, Maik is taken in by the police and sentenced to community service, and when school starts again he thinks it was the best holiday of his life.

Tristan Göbel plays Maik and Anand Batbileg plays Tschick; the cast also includes Mercedes Müller, Aniya Wendel, Anja Schneider, Uwe Bohm, Udo Samel and Alexander Scheer. The film received mostly positive reviews in Germany.
