Halima's Path

Movie · 2012 · 2 people

Directed by Croatia's Arsen Anton Ostojić over the course of four years, Halima's Path is a 2012 drama rooted in a real-life tragedy. It centers on Halima, a grieving yet resolute Bosniak woman who sets out to find an estranged niece so she can finally recover the remains of her son, who disappeared during the Bosnian war of the 1990s. The story draws on the ordeal of Zahida and Muharem Fazlić, a couple near Prijedor whose adopted son Emir was killed in the 1992 Korićani Cliffs massacre; identifying his remains took more than a dozen years after the biological mother refused to give a DNA sample, until his sister finally agreed.

Written by Feđa Isović, the film was chosen as Croatia's submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, though it failed to secure a nomination. Miraj Grbić and Izudin Bajrović appear in the cast.
