Ivy (Sarmaşık)
Sarmaşık (released internationally as Ivy) is a 2015 Turkish drama film written and directed by Tolga Karaçelik. Starring Nadir Sarıbacak, Hakan Karsak, Kadir Çermik and Özgür Emre Yıldırım, the story follows a small crew stuck aboard a cargo ship after its owner goes bankrupt and vanishes, unable to leave under maritime law, as a tense hierarchical struggle builds between the sailors and their captain.
Running 104 minutes, the film had its world premiere in the main competition at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and went on to screen at more than thirty international festivals, including Toronto, Karlovy Vary, São Paulo and Sydney. It picked up four awards at the Antalya International Film Festival, including Best Film and Best Director, making Karaçelik one of the youngest directors to win the Golden Orange.
