Snow
Snow (Bosnian: Snijeg) is the 2008 feature directorial debut of Aida Begić, a drama co-produced by Bosnia and Herzegovina, France and Germany. Set in 1997 in the war-torn village of Slavno after the end of the conflict that tore Yugoslavia apart, it follows villagers whose family members were killed and whose bodies were never found; they have built an imaginary world in which their loved ones still exist. As the threat of snow approaches, young Alma believes she has found a way for the villagers not only to survive but to prosper, until the sudden arrival of two businessmen complicates everything.
Written by Begić together with Elma Tataragić, the film screened in the International Critics' Week section of the 61st Cannes Film Festival, where it won the section's award. It was also Bosnia and Herzegovina's submission for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Academy Awards, though it did not make the shortlist.
