Milk (Süt)

Directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu, Milk (Süt) is a 2008 drama co-produced by Turkey, France, and Germany. It is the second chapter of the Yusuf trilogy, which began with Egg (2007) and concluded with Honey (2010), a series centered on the loss of traditions and its impact on people. Set in Tire, İzmir, the film looks back at Yusuf's youth, exploring his coming of age in a small Anatolian town.

Having failed his university entrance exam, Yusuf helps his mother Zehra sell milk and cheese while sending his poems to magazines. Discovering that his mother is having an affair with a man, and learning during his military medical exam that an illness will prevent him from serving, push him toward a reckoning and transformation within a male-dominated society. Melih Selçuk and Başak Köklükaya lead a cast that also includes Rıza Akın, Saadet Aksoy, Tülin Özen, Şerif Erol, and Tansu Biçer.
