The Abandoned

The Abandoned (Bosnian: Ostavljeni) is a 2010 Bosnian drama film directed by Adis Bakrač and written by Zlatko Topčić, whose screenplay drew the attention of international producers after winning the CineLink screenwriting competition in 2003. The film was made as a Croatian-French co-production.

The story follows Alen, a thirteen-year-old boy growing up in a home for abandoned children. Determined to uncover the truth about his origins, his search leads him into a criminal underworld. Through the boy's journey, the film portrays the aftermath of wartime suffering and the injustice inflicted on the most helpless of its victims: children.

The film had its world premiere at the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival on 8 July 2010, followed by its US premiere at the 2011 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Tony Grga, who played Alen, received the Golden Arena for Best Actor at the 2010 Pula Film Festival. The cast also includes Mira Furlan, Mirsad Tuka, Mirela Lambić, Dragan Marinković, Meto Jovanovski and Zijah Sokolović.
